Ana Florencia JUAREZ SABORIO

A LOOK AT FLORENCIA'S BACKGROUND

Florencia was born in Mexico yet grew up in the United States. She finished high school in the States, where physics fascinated her so much that she decided to go on to study physics at the University of Lyon 1 for undergrad. During her last undergraduate year, she changed paths to Engineering Physics and did an exchange program with McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. She then did her Masters in Atomic and Molecular Physics, Condensed Matter, and Optics at Lyon 1, followed by a 6-month internship in Zaragoza, Spain, at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanomaterials studying BCN nano-onions doing TEM. She eventually decided to do her PhD between Lyon and St. Etienne studying Graphene Origami.

FLORENCIA'S MOTIVATION FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

I have wanted to be able to contribute to giving back to the world since I was little. Physics was a way for me to do this at the macroscale trying to focus on research in helping create better materials for the world. When I heard about this project that ideally would be able to control one of the most innovating and exciting materials in the nanoworld currently I was very excited. My motivation for the project was that there are great advancements to be made with graphene, and the three supervisors I had spoken with were very interesting as well as passionate for the project itself.
