Pierre CHAVEL

A CNRS research scientist (1972-2016) at Institut d’Optique Graduate School (IOGS), Pierre Chavel specialises in Optical Engineering. Formerly the Director of Laboratoire Charles Fabry, he is currently (2016-) the associate Director of IOGS in charge of the Saint-Etienne site. He was a visiting scientist at University of Southern California, Los Angeles (1979-1980) and a Xiing Sheng Chern Visiting Professor at Nankai University, Tianjin (2007-2010). He has been active in optics related learned societies worldwide.

TEACHING

Over the years, Pierre Chavel served as an associate director, Doctoral School Ondes et Matière, Université Paris-Saclay, as head of the Erasmus Mundus master course on Optics in Science and Technology, of the SFO topical schools in Optics. He also has been the President of the French Physics Olympiads since 2011.

COURSES

Pierre Chavel has lectured on geometrical, physical, and electromagnetic optics. He currently teaches Physical Optics (Fourier Optics), Diffractive Optics and Nanophotonics in Manutech-SLEIGHT Master degrees (IOGS and master OIVM-AIMA track).
