EAGLE - Research project
Eye Anterior segment Laser Engineering
ABSTRACT
The "EAgLE" project for Eye Anterior Segment Laser Engineering brings together BiiO laboratory, Hubert Curien laboratory and the Manutech-USD team. It proposes two applications of the femtosecond laser in the anterior segment to provide an answer to major ophthalmological challenges: the shortage of corneal grafts and the first etiological treatment of presbyopia.
Corneal bioengineering is a research axis which produce bioengineered grafts by cutting and surfacing thin lamellae from discarded eye tissue in order to fight against the worldwide shortage of corneal grafts.
The modification of the crystalline lens biomechanics offers the first etiological and non-invasive treatment of presbyopia (in collaboration with the startup KEJAKO based in Saint-Etienne at High Technologies Bulding) by using a multi-scale laser technology.
