Cost of student life

To live in Saint-Étienne, you need to budget for at least €550 per month, corresponding to the price of housing, insurance, bills, transport and food.

You will benefit from access to: university restaurant and cafeteria, university accommodation, university libraries, discounts on transport, leisure activities, etc. However, in the first month after your arrival, you should anticipate three times the usual monthly budget as there will be expenses related to:

moving into your new accommodation,
your university registration,
signing up for social security and the various types of insurance (home insurance, civil liability insurance, etc.)
connecting to electricity, telephone, etc.
