Laurence VICO

Laurence Vico's research on the skeletal system encompasses the understanding of the mechanical and metabolic deconditioning occurring in extreme (spaceflight and analogs) or disuse (osteoporosis, inactivity) conditions. Such (dys)adaptations include intertwined loops leading to bone loss. Other targets are the effects of pharmaceutical and physical training strategies and their safe and efficient application to frail subjects.


MAIN REPONSABILITIES
  • Head of INSERM Unit 1059 with 2 teams (Osteo-articular biology and dysfunctions of vascular and homeostasis functions)
  • Coordination of international projects related to space field with the French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES); with the European space agency (ESA) (ex: Microgravity Application Programs, since 2009 with 10 groups in Europe; Human skeletal adaptation to spaceflights “EDOS”, since 2014).
  • Board of Medes (Institute of Space Medicine and Physiology in Toulouse, France), member of various committees (ex. CNES-INSERM, ESA's Life Science Working Group…), Editorial Board of Frontiers (2014-2019) and Calcified Tissue Int (2014-).
